We have been selling the country off now for decades to foreign ownership,so why stop with selling off the land and farms, just last week, our hard earned sheep genetics were sold off to the Chinese,so lets not stop there."Roll up folks, and be the first to get your company emblazoned across the mighty All Blacks jersey, for the whole world to see,yes folks that's right, roll up,roll up,we don't care where you are from,or what you have done,as long as you have money,we welcome you with arms outstretched in friendship".

the issue here is having a logo across the midsection of the jersey.
my understanding is that adidas pays extra to keep the jersey front clean (in keeping with their minimalist look).
If you think the NZRU are behind the times, try the Aust RU. They allowed Qantas to hijack the Wallabies name! The NZRU know the value of their shirt and they're trying to enhance it. Whether AIG are the right people, well who knows!?

Kiwikev - yet the bnz logo front and back of every NZ Super rugby team jersey doesn't bother you? BNZ has been a wholly-Australian owned bank since 1992.
When Steinlager had their logo on the playing jersey, the additional training jersey and supporters gear all had a Steinlager logo half the width of the jersey front. It still didn't make me buy their beer.

Well done to NZRFU for resisting the temptation until now - the integrity of the AB shirt is important (much like the Barcelona football shirt). It would be nice if some of the larger Unions that don't need the money so much would do the same.

Yes, I see your point [s].

With all due respect, the only issue here is the SIZE of the new logo. The AB's have been playing with a sponsors logo on the front of their jerseys for years, so what is the problem?

Sensible option, doesn't bother me in the slightest; only surprise is that adidas didn't have the option - or maybe they did and chose not to - of having their name across the front of the jersey.
Other international sides have had prominent sponsors for years, who really cares, same players, same win-rate I'll be happy with that.

I can see both sides of this argument, alas the reality is Rugby is a professional sport and the costs associated with it are going to continue to rise and the wages on offer in Europe will more than likely continue to out pace the commercial powers of the Southern Hemisphere nations including the mighty AB's so reality bites, they need to increase their revenue and profitability end of story.

I'm American and I disagree with this. The AB's have sponsors outside of Adidas, they just let them put their logos on their training kit and stuff like that (someone correct me if I'm very wrong). The thought of an All Blacks jersey with some insurance company logo is just strange. Wicked strange. Imagine the All Blacks doing the haka with the Aflac duck logo on their kit. Nope.

Make up your mind - if you have one....................obviously blind hatred rules your life.

Sponsors logos not a problem as lomg as the look of the jersey stays the same, my old style Steinlager/ Canterbury/ New Zealand All Blacks logos
jersey still looks superb.
This AIG deal may bring an unwelcome negative aspect however and I quite agree with the Anerican taxpayers response.
The only negative aspect I like is the snidey wimpering of those whose own teams will never achieve like the All Blacks have......

@rugbylover - you've got to move with the times. In terms of sponsorship, those times were several decades ago. If you don't want to see a recurrence of the Otago rugby saga or the shenanigans with the ITM Cup of a few years ago, then this is the price.

@ APV1 & lawynd - I do not agree.
Stay in the early 20th century, New Zeraland. The mana of that jersey is almost celestial. Keep it that way.

AIG and the ABs deserve each other, sad to see another dagger through the heart of the game.

I know that AVP is right about the business aspects of this but the thought of having a logo sickens me and especially that of the Yanks...

'And currently, Adidas have a small logo on the shirt's right breast, opposite the silver fern on the left.'
You mean like all kit manufacturers do? The NZRFU are really behind the times when it comes to the financial side of the business; ironic really when they've got the most image capital to take advantage of.

Will this finally mean that they'll stop whinging about the cost of travelling to / hosting tournaments and just get on with beating us all? People expect sponsors and it won't change the palyers' ability to play, so welcome to the modern world of professional rugby, albeit 20 years after everyone else..!
