@Andy021

The thing to remember is Argentina arnt at full strength either for this tour.Alot of their players are still in europe being rested aswell ,as they look for more class players to bolster their squad for their priority this year .Their Rugby Championship debut against the big 3 SH teams.

Definatley a squad built for two matches and not with the future at the forefront in many ways. I think PSA is giving a lot of players a well earned rest after a world cup year in which they played every game.

Good move for French rugby, but slightly disrespectful to the Pumas and I'd love to see them win both tests to show that they are no longer a formality and deserve to be be seen as more.

Personnally i would also like to see Bordes and Wineseski included in this squad ,The Parra-Trin-Duc axis i feel just isnt working atm ,and is struggling to release the french backline. It is a very expermental squad ,but PSA wont do a Livermont and cap every player he can lol.He is looking for class replacments for a few aging players i feel rather than a whole new team like ML

@seapointer: Agreed concerning Bastareaud. But what I say is that I understand PSA's choice. He wants to install a pair Fofana-Fritz, and Doumayrou will be the sub for this time. Anyway if he's not convincing, Bastareaud may have another chance, it's not finished for him

@melkdave ok PSA says he wants to "rest players" i just hope he isn't capping lads for the sake of it as livermont, i think i heard, capped 87 players in total .... and that was just the 6 nations

@cineseb regarding capping the young Doumayrou over Bastareaud thats perfectly fine but one would think that Bastareaud should at least be in the squad so to bring him on as a squad player.

Just some precision: Doumayrou is a centre, but Martial is a winger from Castres (2nd try scorer in Top14 this season, with 10 tries, mainly at the end of the season...). And Brice Dulin is a fullback more than a winger.

Concerning Toulouse, I think PSA wants people who played the World Cup to rest, so this includes Millo-Chluski, Clerc, Dusautoir, Poux... For Médard, he is still injured. For Poitrenaud, at fullback he wanted to try young new people...

Concerning Bastareaud, I think for second centre PSA wants to continue with Fritz, and try the young Doumayrou, very convincing with Montpellier. There's also Yann David, from Toulouse, who could have been selected, or Chavancy from Racing. Again one position where there are lots of possibilities (as for second row, back row...)

PSA stated that he would be resting players ,after all its been a very long season all told and ,im sure the players would appreciate a rest .He also said he wants to look at some new combinations and players and this tour is a good time to do it imo

Isn't medard still injured?

Lets face it the Toulouse players have been showing signs of fatique this year. So St Andre has taken an opportunity to look at some of the others, good for France good for Toulouse. Barcella just hasn't really got there this season, since coming back from injury and into the World Cup squad he hasn't really managed to get back to his old level. Maybe next season he's too good a player to be ignored when on form. Wonder where he's going to play Fred, still a good No 9 but even at Toulouse he wasn't getting there a couple of seasons ago at 10, just too off the cuff. Would have liked to see Nyanga back in there. But lets face it toiurs to Argentina are long hard slugging matches and they have tested previous French squads, this one will be no different.

You lead with Michilak, then don't mention him in the article.

Strange!

Ruggernaut i was thinking the same thing! The headline is all about Michalak and yet the article itself doesn't even give him a mention :)

I was expecting the article to cover more on Michalak - congrats to him nevertheless.

@ seapointer, I think the Toulouse players and Barcella are possibly amongst those being rested as they've played a lot of rugby this season and Barcella's had a lot to do since coming back from a serious injury. Bastareud may be in the same category but it's a real mystery as to whether he'll be involved!

quite staggering that only one toulouse back player makes it in .......poitreanuad, medard, clerc, david, Beauxis, doussain all miss the cut.

Bastereud 23 (toulon) seems to have fallen off a cliff in terms of french selection too and at his age one would think he would have a huge part to play in years to come. in the forward fabien barcella (biarittz) 28 is missing - i think after destroying south africa in 2009 he should be a must for the new french team ................this seems to be a bit of a odd selection nether building for the future or staying with the past -bring back livermont :)
