What is wrong with Kidney? What goes through his head when he's picking these teams? I just cannot understand some of these choices...

I would like to think Ireland might have had a real dig at NZ at home, but after a long season & playing in NZ they might cop it!!

On the other hand anyone who under estimates a passionate Irish side will end up in the same situation as oz in the world cup just gone!!

What the Irish need is a kiwi coach. World cup champs - coach by a kiwi, tri nations champs - coached by a kiwi, six nations champs - coached by a kiwi, Europe champs - coached by a kiwi, even the currie cup champs - coached by a kiwi. Ireland enjoy running rugby like the kiwis and are very good at it (BOD). So all they need is a kiwi coach to show them the way.

@black47 sadly he won't because the mainstream Irish media (led by Gerry Thornley) are still cheerleaders and propagandists for his reign of torpor. It would be nice to think this would change at some point but Gerry is still one of his staunchest defenders. Independent journalism? Not when Gerry is getting the teamsheet slipped to him a day in advance. It stinks.

For the McCarthy doubters, he has had his best season ever for Connacht, he's the lineout banker, and much more dynamic that O'Connell in the loose. Also a little surprised that Toner isn't getting a run, I rate McCarthy higher in the loose but he's not likely to make the next WC.

As usual, loads of humility from the Kiwis. You must have picked up the arrogance from your masters.

@munster30...

I have to agree with your post, its just does'nt make sense to be dragging player around on this never ending season, the same applies to the SH teams coming in November. Keith Woods is correct.

As I said on previous posts scrap the lions and Baa's Baa's they belong to a bygone era.

@Munster30

Agree with you about the Lions I'd love to see Ireland withdrawing from these tours, don't think they do us any good at all in the modern game.

@kennyisgay

You should "come out" and admit you omitted the "r" in your name which was obviously meant to be kennyisgray, as your limp comments lack the penetration and colour for these Irish boards...

McCarthy, Why? Dont get it. There is enough 2nd row cover in there. No justification for bringing him. Not as if he has even 20 caps in him at his age! And no I disagree again with the calls for Tomer. Lineout option fine but he is just not the stand and I think at scrum time he is a massive weak link, we are covering a multitude at scrum time as it it is.

Gutted for Gilroy, but then he might benefit from the JRWC.

On the whole though I am pleasantly surprised that so many fresh faces here. As someone else alluded to, how many were forced?

Can't believe Mike MacCarthy is ahead of Dev,

Great to see Marshall there though.

ABlack says...

The main reason Kidney left Craig Gilroy out of Ireland team is his age and lack of experience, and going to NZ and coming up against the likes of Gear, Guildford and possibly Savea may expose him badly at a very young age. He looks promising player though. I dont believe he has out and out speed of the better SH wingers though, so if im right about his speed he would have got exposed down south anyway.

Another ridiculous statement from lametheref, you must be one suck rugby nation if you haven't beaten such a predictable team in over 100 years.

this tour in madness!!! give the players a break after a long hard season!!! They will have played 17 international tests aswell as all their provincial games over a 50 week season!!!! Who is looking after the players best interests here? Tired players are much easily injured!!! Keith Wood put forward an excellent proposal that one summer in every 4 should have no rugby to give the players bodies a chance to recover. Wood proposed that the rest year be after a world cup.

I think this makes brilliant sense. Most of these players will get no proper break this year due to pre-season. They'll play all next season and then go on the Lions tour and then play all the season after that!!!

I can't see Ireland progressing at international level with this amount of gametime that will lead to burn out and injuries. We simply dont have the playing population to cope with this timetable!

Unfortunately as long as money and ticket sales dictate affairs I cant see the players been giving any rest. Personally I'd love to see the Irish players withdraw from the Lions tour next year. I know this won't happen. But it is no coincidence that the French have won the Nations every year immediately following the Lions tours!

uh-oh... plenty more fodder for BNZs.

Plenty of these players carrying knocks.

I think the best we can hope for is not to have a 15+ score gap. But I don't know how likely that really is.

Well a bit disappointed DOC and D'Arcy are still going,id much prefer R.Caldwell or D.Toner.As to D'Arcy well ive posted numerous tines id prefer J.Downey,but that wont happen till next year .Kidney just wont pick players outside of irish teams ,is that IRFU policy i wonder.Only hope is that either Cave or BOD play 12 and D'arcy is on the bench ,but again it wont happen .So Nonu or SBW will run past D'arcy as if he isnt there..As to Gilroy i think his playing in the JRWC along with Madigan ect Sorry to say but i cant see Ireland troubaling the ABs at all ,but i hope im wrong and the tests are close hard matches
