The poll from readers on this frankly bemuses me. Sonny Bill Williams has an admittedly excellent game against Scotland and that's the basis for people thinking he is the 'best newbie of 2010'? We'll ignore the fact that he won nothing with Toulon, barely played for Canterbury and is yet to play in Super Rugby just because he's an All Black, right? Lwazi Mvovo, Ben Youngs, Willem Alberts and Sean O'Brien have all achieved just as much, if not more, this season. If you'd all voted for Sam Whitelock I could at least have understood the reasoning, given how immense he has been for Crusaders and the All Blacks!

Whitelock looks like he's going to make the All Black number 5 jersey his own for years. He's workrate in the loose is immense and he's able to read the game perfectly. He's really athletic, too. Just the kind of lock that many European countries would be looking for.
