Mujati set for Saints exit

29th November 2012 09:15

Brian Mujati Northampton Bath 2012

Departing: Brian Mujati

Northampton Saints prop Brian Mujati will leave the club at the end of the season to link up with French side Racing Métro.

Mujati joined Northampton in 2008 and was part of the side that reached the Heineken Cup final in 2011, but the 28-year old is eager for a new challenge after receiving a substantial offer from the Parisian side.

Mujati's team mate, Soane Tonga'uiha, has also been heavily linked with Racing after spending six years with Northampton, making over 180 appearances for the club, but is yet to make a decision on his future.

"We will be disappointed if those lads go but you can't blame them," said Northampton boss Jim Mallinder to BBC Northampton.

"They've informed me they've received some pretty substantial offers from overseas."

"[We can't compete] unless we were to have about five players in the squad. They've done brilliantly for us. I think a lot of credit [should go] to Dorian West and the rest of the players for making them better players.

"If teams come in from France who've got a bottomless pit [of money], and want to buy a front row, that's what they're doing."

I am an African living in Africa and on behalf of a whole continent I want to say thank you to the multitudes of Saints supporters for for all the support and encouragement that you extended to Brian. You have made Brian realiise a dream you have helped a whole continent realise a dream. Brian comes from a country deeply divided along racial lines and it is through people like him that bridges are being built. Thank you Saints All the best

Probably spoke up one too many times about his international aspirations. Saints don't want to hear about that unless you play for England.

Well it's a real shame to see you go mooj, a real shame but I guess in the end he wasn't going to stick around forever, especially with such big sums of money coming his way from overseas. I really don't want Tiny to go though, we still need him desperately both in the scrum and the loose. Mallinder has got to make some really smart selections now and also some big buys, we can't get bargain basement deals all of our players and hope to compete, Foden and Hartley are the only players it seems being offered a substantial contract. We can't keep rearing stars (like Ashton and Lamont) or reviving the careers of good players (Mujati, Downey, Wilson) and then just let them go, otherwise we'll never have a settled enough squad to win any silverware! What we need is to Identify talent, bring them in and develop them and then keep them! Eg: Lawes, Wood, Hartley, Foden, Myler (on his day), Day, Dickson, Dowson ect. I have big hopes for the likes of Stephenson, Farmer, Nutley, Haywood ect though. They are the right direction to invest in Mallinder, not the likes of Armstrong and Burrell who think they can batter their way through everyone.

Mallindar... Saints are getting stale and lose top players. Time to move on. You know it. Take a break and who knows what opportunities might come up. Many clubs need your skills. Saints have had enough of them.

That's a blow to the Saints. They make an awesome front row. But they were never going to stay for ever.

They have been great for us, sorry to see them go.

When they do I wish them every success and will say thanks for some great rugby.

Shame to see them go. Even though Bath will be better off without having to play against them (well, we're unlikely to be in the HC for a while!), they were good to watch.

Salary Cap debate anyone..?
