Calling time? Richie McCaw

New Zealand skipper Richie McCaw has hinted he will probably retire from international rugby after next year's World Cup.

McCaw captained the All Blacks to victory at the 2011 tournament, and his name ranks among the very best ever to play the sport, winning 124 Test caps to date.

But the 33-year-old reckons he'll call time on his international career in 2015, though teammate Dan Carter - two years his junior - recently stated he plans to play on for the All Blacks.

"I would say it would be reasonably unlikely," McCaw told reporters when asked if he would be playing in 2016.

"You never know but at the moment just to play next year is not a given any more. I haven't even considered beyond [2015] but I would say it is unlikely."

The flanker feels that a move overseas, and the monstrous pay packet it would surely bring with it, is unlikely when his All Blacks days are over.

"If you have had enough of being bashed up in training and all those things, going over there just to earn some money doesn't really appeal," added McCaw.

"I would say that is pretty unlikely, too, but, again, you never say never."
