The amendment to Law 10 4.(f) tells us absolutely nothing about illegal hand offs.
It completely dodges the issue of the hand off with references to
cleaning out players at scrums, rucks or mauls. The issue is plain and simple,
players are not allowed to use the forearm to fend off a would-be tacklers. So
why won't the IRB come out and tell us in plain English that you cannot use
the forearm to the high chest or collar bone area to fend off a tackle. This is
a blatant and reoccurring dangerous tactic used at will and condoned by refs at the
highest level of rugby today.
This is a blatant disregard for the safety of the players. IRB in this case refuses to
address it in language that refs could perhaps understand and exercise on the field. Now if you want to see a piece of IRB Law that is clearly written in the Queens English but never ever called on the field check out Law 21 (J) The player
in the tramlines at the line out marking the guy throwing in is supposed to stand
2 meters back from the line of touch and 2 meters in form the 5 meter line.
However, they never do and its never called. The result is #9s get killed
by this guy when a bad ball in knocked back from the front of the line out because
he usually is let stand in front on his first man in the line out. Would somebody
perhaps a qualified ref tell me why this blantant transgression is allowed to take
place while we practically endorse the forearm hand off as matter of course.

The spear tackle has no place in the game period. However, I think it is being
addressed correctly now. What is not being called is players using their
forearms in place of the traditional open hand off. At the highest level of rugby
today you will see players fragrantly using the dangerous forearm American style
hand off. Its fine if the tackler is wearing a helmet with face guard but should be
reffed more closely on the rugby field

Drunkards, Trinats will say anything anti Richie. Truth probably is that he loves all these overseas players in the wannabies, but at the end of the day the just don't stack up with the AB's so cheap shots are all he has left.

Hey TriNats,
Why all the hate for McCaw? Thes has even less to do with McCaw than the standard rules... You're obviously not Irish, else you'd be complaining about the infamous Nonu BOD tackle a few years ago.
And as to the rules before World Cup, these are purely to give the refs more power when they see a dangerous tackle, they are hardly game changing rules.
Amd if you think you can do a better job than the refs we already have, why don't you head out and do it?
