Ulster s John Afoa breaks free from Treviso

Try for Ulster: John Afoa

Ulster took control of Heineken Cup Pool 5 with an impressive seven-try, 48-0 win over Treviso at Ravenhill on Saturday.

The bonus-point victory means Ulster will finish the weekend clear at the top of the pool, irrelevant of Leicester's result against Montpellier on Sunday.

The Irish province took a 22-0 lead into the interval through tries from Paddy Jackson, Luke Marshall and John Afoa while their fly-half added seven more points through his boot.

And further scores after the break via Dan Tuohy, Sean Doyle, Andrew Trimble and Marshall eased them to a comfortable bonus-point.

Having gone into the game with two victories already secured over Leicester Tigers and Montpellier, Mark Anscombe's men were expected to make it three from three against Treviso. And it didn't take them long to gain the lead when Jackson scampered over with just four minutes on the clock.

That advantage was soon extended through Marshall's try before Afoa, who during the week announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season, also touched down.

With the half nearing its conclusion, Ulster's fly-half kicked a penalty as they went into the interval 22-0 ahead. Benetton needed a response in the second period and they immediately went on the front foot.

That pressure eventually led to the sin-binning of Marshall, but a try proved elusive for the Italian side. Instead, it was the hosts that were next to score when Tuohy crossed the whitewash.

Doyle and Trimble then went over within five minutes of each other to take them into a 41-0 lead before Marshall rounded off a resounding result with a final touchdown.
