No BOD or Best for Ireland

Ruled out: Brian O'Driscoll

Ireland duo Brian O'Driscoll and Rory Best have both been ruled out of the upcoming November internationals, the IRFU announced on Tuesday.

O'Driscoll picked up an ankle injury in the game against Cardiff Blues and following further scans, it has been decided that the injury requires surgery to repair ligament damage, ruling out centre O'Driscoll from playing for 8-12 weeks.

Best been ruled out of the games against South Africa, Fiji and Argentina, due to a neck injury he sustained last Friday playing in the RaboDirect PRO12 game in Wales against the Dragons.

Following a scan and medical review, it was confirmed that Best has sprained ligaments in his neck which will require a rest and rehabilitation period of between 4-6 weeks before a further assessment of the injury takes place.

Sorry to hear O'Driscoll is injured again.

Perhaps it is time for Ireland to move on into the post-BoD phase. He is WELL past his best (and his best was brilliant) and we need to find the centres for the next World Cup. Just throw them in and see what happens.

Australia does it all the time and comes up trumps (ranked No 2 in world - Ireland is ranked No8 and if we lose to Argentina next month, we will drop to No9 or 3rd tier!!). So take an odd risk, allow the young guys to have their head, introduce BoD into the management team and move on!

:-))

Thanks God Eoin O'Malley is back from injury, right in the nick of time by the looks of it.

@BODsGODmisspelt: Darren cave is the only other specialist outside centre in the squad. i'd like to see him get a game but you know kidney will send earls out on crutches before that happens.

As for clermont eoin o'malley is due back this weekend so hopefully he'll be up to speed by then.

Sure he's going to miss our 3 point loss to SA, our 10 point win over Fiji, and our last minute 1 point drop goal win against Argentina, but we're these results ever in doubt?

Not there for the Claremont games is the real disappointment. At least he'll be even more primed for a big 6 nations and, hopefully, the Lions tour.

Best and Strauss will be battling over the no.2 shirt for years so it's slightly less crappy for Best.

pure disasterbags. that is the only word for this...for Leinster at least - can't see how it really affects ireland since they should be have cover in that position

can Goodman play 13? Mallers will be fit again i assume, and in fact stade marcel michelin was where he made a very memorable Heino debut...but with this news, truth be told i'm starting to get worried about the clermont games in december. injuries are seriously threatening to derail our season

That is bad news and I hear D'arcy is carrying a knock as well! Kidney's failure to develop any viable midfield options is really going to show in this series.

McFadden and Earls at 12/13 would be revolving door disaster especially against the boks. Cave is not proven and has a tendency to go missing and Marshall is behind Paddy "Wally" Wallace for Ulster

Why is Dave McSharry or James Downey not in there? They are both on form, in good health and have loads of game time under their belts.

Massive blow for Ireland ,two experianced class players out for the series.I suspect we will see Earls playing 13 with T.Bowe FB come the first test ,Bowe was obviously being prepard for it in Ulsters last game ,Though i think thats wrong myself.much prefer T.Bowe at 13 and Earls on the wing. But DK will just do what he wants anyway. As to hooker ,well looks like R.Strauss will be a starter ,and cliam is 1st cap right off.I also wouldnt be surprised if M.Bent got capped as a 2nd half replacement either.

Obviously dissapointed to hear this news but we will now see what Kidney is going to do in the centres. Hooker is covered with Strauss and Cronin but the big worry is will Kidney play the speed bump that is McFadden at 13 or Earls but I think he would have wanted to play Keith at 15, so will Luke Marshall or Darren Cave get a look in or my prefered option of Tommy Bowe at 13

COME ON Deccie time to think outside of the red box why not try a combination of Luke Marshall and Bowe at 12 and 13

I think this is a real shame. BoD has been great for Ireland. Quite possibly, one of their best ever players. I don't think his form of late has been as good as he'd have liked. But he's an inspirational player who can bring out good performances from those around him.

Get well soon BoD - I'm hoping to see a fit and in form O'Driscoll for the Lions.
