New man: Michael Tagicakibau

Scarlets have confirmed the addition of experienced Fijian winger Michael Tagicakibau to the regional squad on Thursday.

Tagicakibau, 29, today joins the Scarlets ahead of the 2014-15 season bringing with him a wealth of Aviva Premiership club rugby and international experience.

Michael Tagicakibau makes the move to West Wales from Saracens, the younger brother of London Irish winger Sailosi, will be an exciting and experienced addition to a thrilling Scarlets back-three which includes international full-back Liam Williams, former Wales U20 speedster Jordan Williams as well as new addition, 21 year old winger, Harry Robinson.

With 52 appearances for London-based Saracens, over two periods from 2009-2014, Tagicakibau played an important part in the side's back-to-back Premiership final appearances and lifting the title in 2011.

His former clubs include London Welsh, Bristol and ITM Cup province Taranaki. He made his international debut for Fiji in 2007 and was a member of the Fijian squad for Rugby World Cup 2011.

Scarlets head coach Simon Easterby said the 6ft 1in winger, known for his destructive running, will be a welcome addition to an already exciting Scarlets backline: "Michael will bring added experience and maturity to the squad; he has great line-breaking ability but more importantly he's an excellent defender which will complement some of the exciting attacking players we currently have in the back three.

"We have made it clear for some time that we are looking to strengthen our firepower out wide and with the addition of Michael, and Harry (Robinson), we believe that we will have a very destructive back three in amongst a powerful backline.

"Michael has international experience with Fiji and has experienced success with Sarries - we're looking forward to seeing him in action here at Parc y Scarlets and he will undoubtedly be a significant boost to the squad."

A physical defender and speedster Tagicakibau will be a welcome addition to the squad for the passionate Scarlets support in West Wales. On his move from Saracens the Fijian flyer said: "I'm really looking forward to joining the Scarlets and challenging myself in a new environment.

"The region has some great players in the backline and I'm really excited about being a part of a club that has a strong ethos of running rugby.

"There's a young and talented group of guys there that have ensured qualification for the new Rugby Champions Cup for next season and I'm keen to make my mark and help the region with their continued success."
