Crucial kick: Rhys Priestland

Rhys Priestland's injury-time penalty secured a late draw for the Scarlets away in Italy against Zebre.

Zebre headed into the match seeking to address a terrible run of results, while Scarlets were fresh from a thrilling 26-26 draw with Racing Metro.

Steven Shingler's penalty during the opening stages of the first half gave the Welsh visitors an early lead, and they held it for 11 minutes, until Gonzalo Garcia showed a fresh pair of heels to beat the cover defence and stream over.

Tomasso Iannone added the conversion to stretch the advantage out to four, before he added a penalty to put a converted score between the two teams.

Garteh Davies responded with a converted try for Scarlets, scored following solid attacking play, to level the scores at 10-10, and it remained that way until half-time.

Points were difficult to come by after the break, as the two forward packs waged war in the middle of the park.

Both teams saw opportunities to cross for a crucial try pass, and the two sides were able to tighten their discipline to deny their opponents the opportunity to kick themselves in front.

But that is until the final minutes of the match, when Annone stepped up to put his team in front, and many believed the score would prove pivotal.

Prietsland struck back for Scarlets, and once again in the final minute after Luciano Orquera had put the home team back in front.

A draw was probably a fair result following this arduous battle, though both sides will reflect on missed opportunities to grab the win.
