18 Points: Ian Keatley

Ian Keatley kicked all of Munster's points as the Irish province edged the Dragons 18-14 in Friday's Pro12 clash at Rodney Parade.

Munster retained top spot in the Pro12 with a late show in Wales as Keatley was the hero of the hour for the league leaders, kicking six penalties, including two in the final ten minutes to break Newport hearts.

The home side had the better start, with Ian Tovey giving his side the lead with a penalty after 11 minutes, though he missed a second kick minutes later, after the Dragons had worked well to put the visitors under pressure.

Keatley equalised after some good possession play in the Newport 22, but the Dragons retook the lead on the half-time whistle through a second Tovey penalty.

The only try of the game came by the way of Matthew Pewtner, touching down for the Dragons soon after the restart, but Tovey missed the conversion attempt, as well as another penalty kick soon after.

Those missed kicks would prove crucial come the final whistle, but there was still plenty to play for, as the Dragons looked to hold their eight point lead.

But Munster's Keatley proved to be Newport's nemesis, as he pulled three points back with half an hour to play, after Keith Earls had made a smart break for the Dragons' line.

Both sides went down to 14 men halfway through the second period, but it was the Irishmen who came out of that period on top, with two further Keatley penalties. the

Dragons regained the lead with ten minutes on the clock from Tovey's drop goal, but two late penalties left Newport down and out.
