Ruddock started 14 of the 21 games he played including 1 of the 4 Heineken cup games he played. He's been injured of late also, apparently needs him surgery.
Also take it from my wife who lived two doors down from him, don't call him Welsh, he doesn't like it, she regretted saying that to him when he was 12. His mothers Irish, he was born in Dublin and has spent most of his years living here. Its why he moved to the Leinster academy in the first place, he wants to play for them.

Sad to see him go - professional rugby is really beginning to take its toll (Dowling, B. Murphy, Leamy all retired before their time).
@ rockman: He didn't dump you hard enough!!

@BackingLeinster ....
How many of the 32 games did he start off the bench, a player of his calibre should be starting as often as possible instead of being behind about 4 other players. From a Irish perspective we need as many quality players as possible getting game time.Not warming the bench for 3 or 4 years.
@seapointer... Neil Francis is quoted as saying seeing about 4 Munster supporters wearing Northampton colours, you are right that it was totally out of order, but I will counter that by saying I watched the match with a large group and the Munsters supporters with us were cheering for us on Saturday.
lostprofit... Ruddock's Welsh :-)
I was merely making the point that Munster's back-row has been decimated over the last year or so, their new back row of O'Mahony, Ronan & Coughlan with O'Donnell on the bench is a good one but not of the quality of the past. they have reached their quota of foreign players they need to be competative in this area, and Ruddock or Ryan would fit the bill
@leinster_goy..... Red Does'nt suit me

The way o'connell recovers from tiny injurys means he is close to retirement to and if that happens munster will soon be irelands 4th ranked team. 3 class players ( earls,o'mahony,ryan) the rest are either journey men or straight out of the academy or not living up to potential

ALLOWED to stay?
Its their club, their provence, their choice and Leinster trained and nurtured them. Nobody should come in and tell them where to play.
If other provences have not kept up with their acadmey, thats their problem, not Ryan or Ruddocks.
I was never the bigegst fan of Leamy but he had some terrifice moments over the years. Best of luck Dennis.

Yes this is bad news for Munster. Leamy's European peers regarded him as the best no. 8 in Europe during the Munster reign. One would have to agree. As a Leinster fan, I do not see the end of the decline for Munster. Best of luck to you Denis....just a shame to see a hard man hang up the boots early.

that's the entire 1st choice back row of munster (& ireland once upon a time...) gone in one season! (quinlan, wallace & leamy). o'mahony, ronan & coughlan is not bad but... ronan & coughlan injured anyway!

@GCP_JONES maybe ruddock and ryan just don't want to play for munster....the way munster fans behave towards the leinster team is case in point i.e wearing munster jerseys in the millenium stadium and chanting for northampton ! ! ! !

@gcp_jones
Ruddock has played in 21 of Leinsters 32 games this year, compare that to Madigan who's played in 26 but has been getting a lot of the limelight (deservedly). While Ryan had to lengthy injury lay offs, one was several months and he still played 11 games.
While with the exception of Jennings the Leinster back rowers all have a few good seasons left in them, Leinster aren't going to allow themselves be caught out in 3 or 4 years time when players form dips or they have to retire due to injury. They need to have a few more coming through all the time, look at Geordi Murphy in the academy. That was Munster's biggest mistake. Not seeing past winning the Heineken cup.
Also look at the comments of Leo Cullen "being able to play for a team I supported growing up". 26 of next years squad have come through the academy and that number is only going to grow.

Oh god, were screwd now, what are we going to do, The Bull, Flannery, Quinlan, Wallace, Mic O'D, and now Leamy all retired in the last 12 months. O'Connell and O'Callaghan and ROG on the way out.. Why caan't we get Domnic Ryan at least, There might be a contract for Barry O'Mahony yet!

I thought he retired a while ago as he's had so little gametime! Great player in this day tho! I remember him getting the winning try for Ireland against England back when he was unstoppable. He remains to this day the only player to ever dump tackle me on a rugby pitch, and that was at JCT level in school!

Sad news about Leamy, another great player leaves Munster way to early.
Rob Penney is certainly going to have to earn his corn over the next couple of seasons,plus whoever is in charge of recruitment in Munster should be shown the door.
they have reached their quota of foreign players, I could understand signing James Downey but why sign Lualua when they have Earls, Danny Barnes and IMO Denis Hurley who would be great in the centre. Will they now be able to bring a top player to ease the loss of both Wallace and Leamy?.Penney is quoted as saying he hopes to bring a few players with him but will they be of the required standard
Another issue, why is the likes of Rhys Ruddock and Domanic Ryan allowed stay at Leinster when they should be given the opportunity to play on a regular basis and not just when the Internationals are away?
