Brian O'Driscoll has been handed a three-week ban for stamping on Italy's Simone Favaro and is out of Leinster's Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final.
O'Driscoll was sent to the sin-bin for only the second time in his 14-year professional career in the first half of the defeat to Italy at the Stadio Olimpico after bringing his leg down on Favaro's chest, causing the openside to yell out in pain.
Despite missing his province's clash with Wasps on April 5, he will return to Leinster duty in time for their RaboDirect PRO12 season run-in.

Nobody could think that this was as bad as the Healy incident which was much more likely to cause injury! Bonkers!

@3in4
heard Cian Healy on his return from his ban suggesting that "if it were me I'd have expected the same"
Considers himself rehabilitated then

I wrote after the Ireland v England game that there was more stamping in that game than you would see in a Fred Astair movie (remember him). This seems to be systemic in the NH game so not surprising that someone go done for it. Shame it had to be BOD in perhaps his last game for Ireland. Ironic though isn't it, given the hyperbol of the British press in November last year, aka Adam Thompson.

You really are what rugby union does not need - a mindless thug trying to justify what is a serious (and dangerous) infringement in the code of rugby union...

@ 3in4
You are a tw*t with your comment that it was understandable. There is no place for that sort of thing on the field.
As for choke tackles, go back and watch all the matches in the 6N and then tell me how many you could see and how often a player was stamped on.
Ireland are probably one of the worst for choke tackles. How many Irish players were stamped on.
And for the record, O'Driscoll got off very very lightly with three weeks.

What an idiot you are.
Not only he stamped Favaro, but he put his hands on his face to hurt him more. Luckily, he didn't push.
Hope his ban won't be condoned.
He should have know better.

@3in4 - I bet you'd be screaming bloody murder if your beloved BOD had had his leg or ribs broken by Cole or Favaro...grow up.

Favaro had Madigan in a chokehold with his right hand and O'Driscoll was just helping his team-mate. Understandable response if you ask me. Just like Dan Cole, maybe Favaro will think again next time.
