@Deggers Strauss qualifies at the start of next season. Kidney was asked this in the press conference yesterday.

Sexton has not played well for Ireland for two reasons, Kidney does not allow him the license to play to Joe and Leinster do and the second is Murray. He is a talent but Redden is pole position and if you want the Leinster/Irish backs to play you need to up the tempo Murray does the opposite. I think he is a talent and he is still young enough but he needs to learn for Redden.

Sexton is true talent but really, does it matter who they send?

@melkdave Do you realise that Paul Marshall is 26 years old? Were you joking about the JRWC thing lol?

Also I agree with the majority of posters on here. Kidney is being far too complacent with his choices. But i am glad to see Cave picked (and to a lesser extent Zebo). Still don't think DOC or D'arcy have done enough to retain their places.

Henry's inclusion being mooted, but no mention of two-time Heineken Cup winner Kevin McLaughlin?

If Henry's being included because he's a more natural No.7, then why not pick Jennings? Arguably a better openside than Henry?

Gilroy's absence is a shame. But it was him or Zebo. Personally I like the kind of mobility and pace Zebo and Gilroy have, both would integrate better with the Leinster backs who make up the rest of the Irish backfield. Taking this into consideration, I'd go for Gilroy over Trimble. Trimble although big and powerful isn't consistent enough and he's definitely not fast enough. Zebo-Kearney-Gilroy playing outside Sexton-O'Driscoll-Cave would be an absolute handful. Instead it looks like Ireland are plonking for the tried and tested formula. Trimble has very little going forward that's going to trouble the ABs unfortunately.

1) ROG is 35.

2) I believe we should be developing a team now beyond ROG, ask your Leinster com[patriots like blametheref, I have said before I believe Sexton is and should be the starter, today he is a etter player, however just because the sun shines out of his arse in Donnybrook there is no escaping his world cup stats, 3 from 13 as I recall. Much better 6N but hardly world class either!

3) ROG suspect defensively, but as canny a player when it comes to controlling a game not many and if we miraculously finds ourselves ahead with a little time to go in NZ I sure as shit would like to have that talent to call upon (unlikely).

Fact is what reviles me is the way that many Leinster fans single out O'Gara as the sole problem with the Irish set up despite his continued peformances in a green and red shirt. Persinally I find him an odious twat but you know what I can get past that and see the skills he can bring to a game. let me ask you why dont you turn some of trhat critique against some of your own blue shirted failures like Darcy.

Many pieces of old or deadwood in the Irish set up, but before you get to OGara why not take a shot at Darcy, DOC, and yes based on the last two seasons Heaslip, O'Gara has contributed more than all 3 in the last 2 years but the myopic amongst seem to see his public excoriation as the panacea for all things wrong with irish rugby.

So please continue to laugh but when you stop take off your blinkers and judge the game not the man ( as I say I find the man odious but talented)

Will people please get off the Downey band wagon.

He has proven to be useless against quality opposition again and again..

He is 29 and will never be involved in the next RWC squad. So why bother introducing this player into the Irish squad? I can't even understand why Munster have signed him.

Gavin Duffy is not of international standard.

. . . .I have awoken the kraken. It's just a post on a website, don't take these things so seriously. I feel bad for upsetting you and I apologise. While my comment was completely outrageous, I have to disagree with you to some degree. I think Mike Sherry is of use, he just needs time and that's exactly what the tour is about. Murray is a quality scrumhalf but like Sexton, for example, he has yet to perform consistently in a green jersey. Paul Marshall though, deserves to be in the squad.

Have NZ arranged a warm up or will both teams be playing each other on a fairly level playing field?

Ireland are NZ's warm up matches prior to the start of the Quad Nations.

also. the talk of downey is silly. munster have not fixed their problems at 12 with him. he's a limited playerif anything it will stop hanrahans development. i'm sure he had offers from elsewhere and signed only an academy contract. he is incredibly loyal but may regret it getting little gametime as downey and laulala will play even when irish contingent are missing

kidney is just trying to do his job and win games. he has no intention of building for the future because he won't last long enough. i can understand why he'd bring o'gara but it's disappointing that they don't bring young lads along in specialist positions. unfortunately gavin duffy is the only specialist full back cover who gets gametime but he's too old and being a solid player isn't good enough. gilroy is unlucky not to get in ahead of zebo. if he doesn't start the first test then it'll show how little faith he has in zebo. he's got a lot of weaknesses without the ball and they will be exposed in nz. no good youngsters ready to make scrumhalf position. kidney doesn't have the balls to bring dom ryan. ya'd think they could bring 2 or 3 more players on tour. sherry is decent choice although i'd imagine we won't see much of him once strauss qualifies. touhy deserves his place. i was hoping BOD would go with them on holiday but not take part in the tour. he needs resting before he picks up another injury. so i hope cave gets starts. there is a lack of youth at 12 coming in so darcy gets little competition. am i the only one that hopes that the injury doubts (o'connell, boss, court and henry) miss the tour. i'm being a bit harsh on henry because i'd like to see him get more caps after the year he's had.

jtimkins I was in a rush I had things to do, I couldn't stand around and correct my grammar. Idiotic views nobody asked your opinion and to be honest, I could care less of what you think. But I am glad you deciphered something that wasn't encrypted top marks for you.I actually don't care what you think. What a shock! Now don't speak unless you actually have a valid view sprinkled with at very least a minor bit of intellect. But i don't even expect that from you. My view is that on form players be picked who play week in week out. Oh my god what a revolting idea ( sarcasm in case you are to stupid understand that) I eat and drink rugby I understand the game and the rules what every player on the pitch should be doing. I know all most all aspects of the game bar hooker, loose head and tight head and I am better at the game than you will ever be I have a will to win at anything i do so i expect the same of people and coaches in this country. Has Kidney changed his tactics over the last 3 years No! Bar using the choke tackle which is Lez kiss's idea. I feel he is way to Conservative with his selections afraid of a risk. I respect what he did with Ireland in 09, but what have we had since but abject failure. No titles mean's failure, but clearly from the lack of trophies shows he isn't doing a good job. He picks players who are not any use Tomas O'Leary as a 9,Paddy Wallace as a center is too light for that position. He cant make up his mind who his fly half is and he has 3 very good scrum half's and only when his back is against the wall will he actualy pick at least one of them. don't get me wrong Connor Murray is good but has not fixed his slow passing problem. He keeps selecting Donacha O'Callahan when Dan Tuhoy is the clear choice. Now jtimkins if you think I am wrong fine. But explain to me why I am and how I am. Perhaps I will read it if it actually carry's merit.

hmm...I see cave as being an ample replacement for D'arcy or BOD long term and the rest of the squad looks ok but where the hell are Wilson and Downey?! Both are class players and young enough to be around for a good few years in the ireland side and both (Downey especially) are better or as good as their opposition number who is currently wearing the green jersey...
