I have said for a long time that HC places should go top finishers/
I don't see taht being accepted, but maybe min one from each country, with the other places going to top finishers.
Not ideal, as you could get a team at 11th qualifying over two teams above.
Also 10 teams does seem a little rich.
Arguing against this, the HC does not use where the teams finish in the leagues for their seedings, so they probably would not go with it anyway.

lots of comments here about Leinster fielding under strength teams...well, as a supporter I honestly don't mind...I really do enjoy seeing some of the Academy kids get top flight experience....and if you look at the Leinster squad about 90% has come through the academy (13 of the team at the final whistle at the Sale match last weekend were academy)...putting Academy players out there does give a more exciting match to watch - yes mistakes will be made, but to echo other posters, at least they try and instead of up the jumper rugby, you will get a running game - not good for the heart when someone tries to run the ball from 5 feet over their own goal line, but it sure as hell keeps you engaged...

Dragons! Dragons! Prydie will finally fulfill his early promise and Lydiate will smash all before him, and Faletau will be untouchable....or maybe that was just a dream. Good Luck Dragons I think we're going to need it! Play-off qualification would be awesome!
League format sucks but it all we've got and I love it - rugby is actually often better than AP and Top14 as rugby actually gets played, Intensity is sometimes lacking but creativity (which everybody seems to have forgotton about in Pro era) is still around in Pro12. Players try more - i love high intensity games too but 80 minutes of just trying to smash the other bloke off the park in a stagnant war of attrition - anybody remember that sometimes it's easier to go round than through a player?

@froggy73
I'm guessing you're not talking about the rugby - 0 tries in 2 semis and the final in the top14 vs 15 in the Rabo semis and final, plus a last minute try and touchline conversion to decide the title for the team who are not expected to win. The AV is admittedly a little less predictable in playing style than the top14 but not by much - the Rabo is not exactly the Super 15 but there were some great tries last time out, young players are allowed to progress properly and this is the league which supports the Italian teams and gives them top flight game time, which can only be good for N Hemisphere rugby.
It's the best league to watch of the top 3 in Europe imo and it takes way too much flak from arrogant french and english admin men and fans from those countries who are seemingly happy to watch 80 minutes of crash ball and kicking.

@ ollieosprey
In the match they beat Leinster in at home, due to the IRFU player welfare scheme and the world cup, Leinster couldn't have played a strong team if they wanted to. Leinster play second string teams only in matches they know they'll win.

I am excited for this to start but i really think something has to be done to make the league more intense... the play offs was a start and as an Ospreys fan i'm obviously delighted they brought those in ;) and there is the occasional good, high qualtity match... i.e regular season Lienster v Ospreys and Scarlets v Cardiff, were really entertaining and did have an intensity to them. I think if the French and English get their way in terms of hieneken cup qualification it would be very good for this league.
I live about 5 hours away from Swansea so going to matches is a little difficult and i certainly feel its not worth the journey to see an Ospreys side beat a second string Lienster/Edinburgh/Cardiff etc... side in a game none of the players really give a damn about.
I think if the Hieneken cup qualification is brought in these teams would try a lot harder and you would get some very good games.
But just my opinion.... still really looking forward to it :)

@AndrewInKorea &adamk
Im all for players welfare and that they get proper rest ,,Your anology of Leinsterplaying 2nd string teams for 50% of the season is right,but why oh why cant they rotate their star/big players thoughout the season as AP and Top14 clubs do rather than rest them enmass as they do at present.Also your wrong on the AP directive it exsits,just to stop players being rested enmass,it might be moot now ,as qualification for playoffs and HC is very tight these days ,which is why the star/big players get rotated though the season rather than enmass which they arnt allowed to do anyway,and its in the SANZAR rules aswell.

@melkdave There is no 'directive' that states the AP and S15 teams have to play their best teams. Infact, your point on S15 teams is ridiculous as they don't have two top tier competitions to compete in.
AP teams chose to play full strength teams because of relegation. Would relegation improve the Pro12? I don't see how. I can't see how it'd balance the teams for the H-Cup, as teams like Leinster would still easily get into the top 4 without going into top gear.
For me the problem with the H-Cup is that the big English teams no longer know how to tactically approach a season. Look at the Saints, they played three pre-season games with an essentially FULL strength team. Why not mix it up? How do they expect to compete in the later stages of the H-Cup when they're playing each an every game?

Melkdave, what are you on about? Leinster play a secind string team for 50% of the games and still walk home with the regular season finish of 1st place? What more do you want? Play the frontliners all season and top the standings by 50 points? A lot of people saying there is too much rugby these days, players are not getting a rest, and yet when the IRFU utilises their player welfare programme - as is their right - it is seen as not fair? Make up your mind! Give the players a rest, they play enough rugby as it is.

This is going to be again an Irish-Wales dominion, and well deserved.
All the contenders seems to be stronger or better oiled then the rest.
As an Italian looking things always from down below, my only hope relies on Treviso that seems much stronger in all the areas with very important players joining in from the now defunct Aironi. Hopefully a 5th rank would be the target this year.
We will have a better idea after 5 games.
Good luck everyone.
P.S.
Celtic league is much more entertaining then AP!!! ;)

league positions of the top four don't really matter...Leinster have lost 2 of the last 3 grand finals at home, so home advantage is no real guarantee of victory all the way...Ulster will be dangerous, but am not too sure how well Munster will do - simply because they are somewhat in transition - if you look at the list that have retired / left, then it may be too soon for the team to gel...from a Leinster perspective I would rather us not make the playoffs then have the unwelcome distinction of potentially losing 4 finals in a row...

Well i do hope the welsh and scottish teams decide,to compete this season..Leinster and Munster shouldnt be allowed to play 2nd string teams for most the campaign.Time for a league directive that only the best team available should play matches,same as S15 and AP ect.Personally i feel that some teams will just concentrate on the HC.like Edinbutgh last season,to the determent of the league ,and again give their fans nothing to get excited about for most of the season ,Except if they make the playoffs for the grand final..Such a shame imo as the rugby being played is very good most of the time ,and no ones watching except one man and his dog.Really who finuishes where in the Pro12 is totally irrevalent ,with no qualification ,relegation or any other kind of battles ahead.for fans to cheer about.

someone told me recently that the ospreys are going to be marketed this season as "The Jammy Dodgers", and that their new mascot will be the eponymous biscuit. is this true? even if not, it would certainly be apt after what happened in the pro 12 final in may
it'll be interesting to see how the ospreys cope this season without their star player, the little wizard - yep, you know who i'm talking about - mr. romain poite. he was absolutely amazing for them in the pro 12 final. practically won them the game single-handedly
anyway, here's to a good season
