Key points: Duncan Weir

A second-half score from Moray Low helped Glasgow claim the 1872 Cup thanks to a 17-12 win over Edinburgh in the PRO12 at Firhill on Sunday.

Neither side crossed during a stop-start first half, but it was Glasgow who held the advantage at the interval courtesy of three Duncan Weir penalties.

The home side's first was awarded in the second minute just to the right of the posts, although moments later Phil Godman missed the opportunity to boot Edinburgh level when the visitors won a penalty of their own.

Weir then missed a kickable penalty when Edinburgh were penalised for failing to roll away, but he made no mistake on 18 minutes when the visitors strayed offside.

Edinburgh were then given the opportunity to narrow the deficit when Glasgow infringed at the ruck, which Godman took to make it 6-3.

But the six point advantage was quickly restored when Weir added another penalty following an offence at the scrum.

There was a similarly slow start to the second period, with neither side able to take the game by the scruff of the neck. In fact, the only points to come during the third quarter of the game came from Edinburgh's Godman, who obliged twice with the boot to level the scores.

On 68 minutes, came the game's first try. Low was the man to get over the line and his try would prove crucial. The conversion was missed, but Scott Wight was on target with a penalty minutes later to establish an eight-point cushion and, although a late Godman drop-goal reduced Glasgow's advantage, there was to be no comeback from the visitors.
