Richard Fussell: Try scorer

A below-strength Ospreys side scored four tries to beat Connacht 33-18 at Liberty Stadium in the Magners League on Sunday.

The result sees Ospreys move up to second place in the standings.

Having opened up an eight point lead at half-time, through a converted Richard Fussell try and nine points from the boot of Dan Biggar, the hosts scored three more touch downs after the break, from winger Tom Prydie, centre Sonny Parker and hooker Mefin Davies.

The away team replied through Jonny O'Connor and Michael Swift but it wasn't enough to extend their four match winning run.

And it was the Irish side who took a surprise lead through a penalty from fly-half Ian Keatley, but Biggar replied for the Ospreys with one of his own. Soon after, back-rower O'Connor scored the first try of the game for Connacht, but Keatley missed the conversion.

Biggar then reduced the arrears with another three points before a weakened Ospreys finally took control of the match.

Not long before half-time winger Fussell went over, before the young stand-off extended that advantage with a penalty.

After a bright start to the second period, the Welsh side were suitably rewarded when Prydie touched down for an unconverted score. But Connacht refused to lie down.

Despite missing a 48th minute attempt, Keatley added a penalty just before the hour mark to give the away side hope.

However, the hosts virtually assured the victory when experienced centre Sonny Parker went over.

Connacht managed a consolation through lock Swift with Miah Nikora converting, but Mefin Davies scored a potentially crucial last minute try for the Ospreys to help garner a bonus point.
