Rees; further medical treatment

Cardiff Blues club captain Matthew Rees is poised for further medical treatment that will prolong his spell on the sidelines.

The Blues made the announcement on Friday, after it emerged that the hooker was to undergo an enforced period away from the game in October.

The club have now confirmed that the former British and Irish Lions tourist must negotiate further treatment at Velindre Hospital, Cardiff commencing next week, before aiming for a return to rugby.

Cardiff Blues, on Rees' behalf, have passed on the player's vote of thanks for the countless messages of support he has received from fans, and for the media in respecting the skipper's privacy.
