No blame: Heyneke Meyer

South Africa head coach Heyneke Meyer has refused to blame referee Romain Poite and the red card shown to Bismarck du Plessis.

Du Plessis was dismissed in the 43rd minute after two yellow cards, the first for a controversial tackle on Dan Carter that was deemed to be legal by many pundits.

The Springboks were unable to stay in the match after going down to 14 men as New Zealand retained their number one world ranking with a 29-15 victory.

Meyer though refused to blame Poite for the defeat and stated that whilst his team didn't play well, he never ruled out their chances.

"We don't have any excuses, we wanted it to be a spectacle," said Meyer.

"I don't think we played that well, but I always thought we had a chance after half-time.

"They outplayed us for the first 30 minutes, but I really felt there was a momentum shift after that driving maul.

"I truly believe that guys are well educated so we've got a saying that the ref is always right."

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers added that du Plessis was disappointed to have been sent off, but stated that the side had to move on after a frustrating performance.

"He is disappointed, Bismarck is a physical player. He is a very good tackler and I think he executes his tackles very well," said de Villiers.

"So he was disappointed that he only played 30 minutes of this game. We're all disappointed, we're disappointed with the results and that hurts.

"It is what it is and we have to move on and learn from this because at the end of the day, whatever decisions were made we didn't play well tonight.

"Even though we lost on the scoreboard and had 14 men, we didn't play well, we didn't defend well and that's the concerning thing for me."
