Alby Mathewson: Stole the show

Western Force skipper Pek Cowan believes his side's 19-12 win over the Reds in Brisbane is due to their ability to capitalise on their chances.

The Perth-based side broke a six-match losing run - including a heart-breaking 36-26 defeat to the Bulls in Pretoria a fortnight ago - to down the fancied Reds and scored the only try of the match.

"We took a lot out of our Bulls game, and we had two weeks to prepare for this game," said Cowan.

"We capitalised on every opportunity we had tonight. I'm very pleased."

While most interest centred on the return from injury of Wallabies scrum-half Will Genia for the Reds, it was his opposite number, former All Black, Alby Mathewson who stole the show.

Mathewson set up the only try and almost engineered another as the Force celebrated their first win in Brisbane in six attempts.

Not since they beat the Reds 45-19, almost a year ago, has the Force delivered a better 80-minute team performance.

Genia, who captained the 2011 champions, believes they engineered their own downfall.

"We're bitterly disappointed with the performance," Genia said.

"Too many errors, too many times running into touch and too many poor passes... it wasn't acceptable."

A good Force team performance, against what looks like a lackluster Reds ,who in my opinion havent hit the form of 2 yrs ago QC looks a little lost at times, and seems to have lost his spark, for making something for nothing, and his unpridictabilty.
