Great signing, it'd be nice to see him on the wing next to Foden with Vas on the other as it adds a bit of weight and experience to the wings and the back 3 where we were previously lacking (I mean 104kgs come on that's massive for a utility back 3 player). That combined with good goalkicking makes him the ideal candidate to replace ashton at 14. Actually as mentioned by rugby_rockstar it would be nice now if we could scrap Lamb and bring in a running 10 (like geraghty was) so that our flyhalf can concentrate on running the game and not have to compromise quality playmaking for decent goalkicking. I'd keep Myler around because he's a solid backup 10 but nothing much more as he struggles with consistency and his running game. Lamb is shocking though, one day he can pass but not kick, the next he can kick but not pass, the next he can do both and the time after that he can't do anything...and he sure as hell can't tackle. Just look at our Potential lineup though 15- Foden, 14- Shepherd, 13- Pisi, 12- Burrell, 10-May???, 9- Dickson, 8- Van Velze, 7- Wood, 6- Clark, 5- Lawes, 4- Manoa, 3- Mujati, 2-Hartley, 1-Tonguiha. 16- Haywood, 17- Waller, 18- PDJ/Mercey, 19- Sorenson/Day, 20- Dowson, 21- Commins, 22-Burrell, 23- Armstrong/Diggin/Cato/Sempere and with guys like Elliot, Craig, Nutley, Ingle and Sharman waiting in the wings we finally have a strong squad with DEPTH. Could be our year coming up (I doubt it until I see it but I remain hopeful).

Totally agree. Saints can lead Europe if they get a Nick Evans at 10.

Suprised Gerraghty did not get more of a chance whilst he was there? Injury?

The big problem with saints is that their tens, Myler and Lamb are flakey. sometimes thier kicking is off, other times they'll throw a pass that's never on. So if Shepherd provide a reliable goal kicking option for the side and take that aspect away from the flyhalves then it may help improve the rest of their games... maybe.

From a coaching point of view its a good move. thinking ruthlessly though I just don't think either lamb or myler are trophy winning tens and Saints won't win squat until they get shot of them and invest in a decent playmaker rather than two mediocre ones. And they are mediocre, any good thing they do is undone by a complete howler later in the game so what you are left with are mediocre 50% success rate players.

How do the English clubs produce all these terrific players? It is impressive.

Northampton have got themselves a good one here. I have always admired Shepherd -- but will his body survive the season?
