Sharks loose forward Ryan Kankowski looks set to continue his playing days outside of South Africa.
The 27-year-old was omitted from Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer's squad for the upcoming June internationals after falling out of favour at the Sharks.
Kankowski has not played for the Durban franchise since early April and was left at home when John Plumtree's men went on their overseas tour after a poor run of form that raised questions about his physical and mental conditioning.
In announcing his 34-man party, Meyer revealed that Kankowski would be turning out for the South African Sevens team, presumably at the upcoming World Cup in Russia, and that he could not select players whose futures were in doubt.
"I had an open discussion with Ryan Kankowski. He is going to play for the Sevens," explained the Springbok mentor.
"He has not played for some time and he is not sure going forward with his career and I want to pick guys that are going to stay in South Africa and we are sure of their long-term plans."
Kankowski joined Japanese outfit Toyota Industries Shuttles last season and has struggled since his return. It is believed that a return to Japan could be on the cards due to his fall down the pecking order in Durban.
