Delighted: James Horwill

Reds captain James Horwill was delighted after his side fought back from a 20-13 deficit to clinch a 33-20 win over the Rebels in Brisbane on Saturday.

"It was a big effort as we had a disrupted week coming back from South Africa but the boys showed a lot of character to stick out some tough moments, not everything went our way especially in the first half," he said.

"Our bench guys made a big impact in the last 20 minutes and we just had to hold on to the ball which we weren't doing earlier in the game."

The win moves the Reds to fourth on the table with 50 points from 15 matches.

The Rebels again showed a great improvement in their play from earlier in the season.

"We've been building really well and for an hour tonight we were the better team," Rebels back-rower Gareth Delve said.

"A couple of injuries, the Reds lifted their game and they had a lot of impact off the bench and in the end we just slipped away."

Meanwhile, a shoulder injury to Rebels skipper Scott Higginbotham will be a major concern for Wallabies coach Robbie Deans ahead of the upcoming series against the Lions.

Higginbotham has been one of the form players in the competition but left the field in the 50th minute when he sustained his injury after a tackle on Beau Robinson.

Higginbotham revealed that he would go for scans on Sunday.

"I'll think positive and ... hopefully it's alright," he told ABC Grandstand Sport.

"We'll see how we go and hopefully it's not too bad."
