Hurricanes and Wellington Lions loose forward Brad Shields has extended his allegiance with both teams for another two years.

The 23-year-old has signed with the Lions until the end of the 2015 season, and the Hurricanes club through to 2016.

Shields said he was excited by the prospect of continuing his involvement with both clubs.

"I know that I'm going to be part of something special for another couple of seasons. It's exciting times for both teams at the moment, and I certainly want to be a part of it," said Shields.

"I love these two sides and can't wait to continue my development as player in the Wellington environment."

From the Petone club in Wellington, Shields made his debut for the Hurricanes against the Stormers in Cape Town in 2012, and first ran on for the Lions against Hawke's Bay in 2010.

Wellington and Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said Shields was a strong, hard-working character, whose presence in both squads was highly valued.

"Brad is a young man who is already a strong performer whenever he takes the field, and we're delighted he has committed his future to the Lions and Hurricanes," said Te Puni.

"Not only does he put an enormous amount of effort into his on-field performance, Brad is also very keen to contribute in the community and engage with the fans."

Hurricanes high performance general manager Chris Stirling said Shields was a crucial contributor in the club's drive towards achieving a true performance culture, which made his contract extension exciting and valuable.

"He fully understands the requirements and characteristics needed to be an outstanding professional, and epitomises everything we are looking for in our future squad members both on and off the field," said Stirling.

"Brad's passion for both the game and the Hurricanes makes him a crucial part of our exciting future."
