New contract for Perenara

TJ Perenara Hurricanes 2012

Two-year deal: TJ Perenara

The Hurricanes have announced the re-signing of scrum-half TJ Perenara on a new deal with both the Wellington Lions and the Super Rugby outfit.

After his debut term with the 'Canes came to an abrupt end in June with a broken ankle, the half-back is on the road to recovery and eager to play.

"I'm excited to be with Wellington and the Hurricanes for another two seasons. This is my home and I can't wait to get back on the field and play some footy," said Perenara.

Hurricanes and Wellington Rugby CEO James Te Puni was thrilled to have the player commit to the capital for another two seasons.

"We are delighted TJ is on board with the Ricoh Wellington Lions and the Hurricanes until the end of 2014. He is one of our own, straight from Titahi Bay and has had a huge impact this year. TJ is a loyal and committed young man. It is fantastic to see him stay to continue his career in the capital," he said.

Hurricanes head coach Mark Hammett added that he is confident young scrum-half Perenara will continue to progress after what was a strong first season in Super Rugby.

"TJ made a good start in his first season with the Hurricanes and we are looking forward to continuing to work with him to develop his game and continue the progression of his career. He works hard off the field to learn and develop his game and I'm sure he will come back better and stronger in 2013 after his injury," he said.

This guy is a star in the making and I have to agree with the original poster that he ABs will be heading to England 2015 with three top notch scrum halves. Smith, Kerr-Barlow and Perenara. In my opinion they all offer something different, but Perenara could well be in the number one spot by then.

I agree ABlack, shame about that injury, he was the form 9 in NZ at the time. I think him, Smith and Kerr-Barlow give the ABs a lot of options over the next few years. I like Smith's distribution but I really feel like they are missing a trick not having Kerr-Barlow in there ahead of Weepu
