Veteran Highlanders lock Brad Thorn may miss the rest of the season after sustaining a torn bicep injury against the Bulls.
The 39-year-old World Cup winner is set to undergo surgery on the injury on Sunday.
Thorn will turn 40 next year and has previously stated that he would like to continue playing top-flight rugby whether in Super Rugby or in Europe.
One of the most successful cross-code players of all time, a Highlanders spokeswoman said it was "anticipated" that Thorn would miss the rest of the Super Rugby season.
The Highlanders fortunately have good depth at lock with Jarrad Hoeata, Josh Bekhuis and Joe Wheeler all in the squad.
