Hammett won't rule out Nonu move

Tough season: Ma'a Nonu

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett insists he is not pursuing a move to bring Ma'a Nonu back to Wellington but won't shut the door on a possible return.

Nonu was one of a number of players who left the Hurricanes at the end of the 2011 campaign as Hammett looked to breathe new life into the franchise. The Blues were Nonu's first port of call, but after just one season he moved on to the Highlanders.

The centre has endured a disappointing season, with dismal form compounded by a three-match ban for a tip-tackle that brought his Super Rugby campaign to an early end. Added to this, the All Black is believed to have a frosty relationship with Highlanders boss Jamie Joesph and as such it is no surprise that he has been linked with a move away from Dunedin.

A return to the Hurricanes as been mooted as a possible option for the 31-year-old, and while Hammett insists he is happy with the options currently at his disposal, he refuses to rule out a homecoming for Nonu completely.

"It's something I haven't really given a lot of thought to be quite honest,'' Hammett is quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.

"We are always looking at our squad moving forward and I think we've got a good bunch of midfielders, some good young kids coming through, so once again, you never say never.''
