To be honest if i was kicking a conversion i'd prefer some noise rather than a deathly silence!! I think its actually more unsettling...i have a lot of respect however for those crowds that stay silent.

Watching the munster vs ulster game was a great example of that.

Leebok I do not condone any of the crowd interfering with the match physically, although a scantily clad female streaker is welcome in my book. Booing is a form of support for your team and part of the home crowd advantage, and as Jaystarr says you dont pay good money and devote your time to sit passively in the stands, throwing things on to the field...no, booing the opposition yes, applauding good play from either side yes, clapping on/off injuries and replacements yes, and a round of applause at the end regardless of outcome is expected. I guess I just get sucked into your persistent attacks on Kiwis...I learnt my lesson I wont waste my time reading your posts now

Great stuff from the players, both Cowan and the Stormers. He's one of the all blacks greats and deservedly so.

@ daibok: Trust me, the Stormers didn't mind. 20,000 people booing is nothing in comparison to a packed Newlands booing!

It's a tongue-in-cheek culture at Newlands - we've been booing for decades. People who sit at home on their @r$3$ always complain about it - but it's our right to do anything we want to support our team and "take part" in the game... We didn't pay more than R100 and drive 60km to just sit there and give a round of applause every time something good happens...

I laughed when I heard the Dunedin crowd booing - good on them! They're getting involved.

I wish more people would get off their couches and make the effort to go support their team in person - and make any noises they bloody-well feel like.

Class acts on both sides of the field...well done to the Stormers for recognizing an opposing player's significant milestone, and congrats to a very appreciative Jimmy Cowan. It's good to see stories like this one.

Nice touch from the Stormers, and equally kind words from Jimmy...leebok could learn from the both of them

It's just a pity that the sportsmanship didnt extend to a NZ crowd who once again booed opposition conversions.
