Dan Carter Crusaders warm up 2013

July return: Dan Carter

All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter is targeting a return to Super Rugby with the Crusaders in July, after completing his sabbatical.

32-year-old Carter, followed teammates Richie McCaw and Conrad Smith in taking a six-month break from the sport to recuperate, and potentially prolong his career at the top.

The pivot has previously suggested he aims to keep playing for New Zealand beyond the 2015 defence of their World Cup title.

And though England visit the Kiwis for a three-Test series in June, Carter hopes to make his comeback shortly after Stuart Lancaster's men have played their final game of the tour.

"I'm pretty keen to play a couple of Crusaders games after the test series so that's what I'll be working towards (and) potentially a club game or two before then," Carter told the New Zealand Herald newspaper.

The fly-half remained unconcerned by the Crusaders' poor start to the Super Rugby campaign; pointless after two Rounds, and scraping a 14-13 win over the Stormers in the third.

"It's a pretty stock standard start by the Crusaders, to be honest - typically slow," added Carter.

"They'll be fine, I'm sure they'll get a lot better as the competition goes on."
