Full shift: Richie McCaw

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw made his rugby return on Saturday for Christchurch RFC, coming through a full 80 minutes.

McCaw's Christchurch RFC took on Lincoln University, winning 22-5, in the 32-year old's first match back following his sabbatical.

The most capped New Zealand international of all time dropped his first ball but clearly grew into the game as it progressed - hounding players more and more as the clock ticked, while he was happy to be used as a lineout target.

While McCaw admitted he had "heavy legs" towards the end of the match, he didn't deny he would play a part in the Crusaders campaign for the Super Rugby Finals Series.

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder was said to be at the ground and would have been happy his veteran came through with a full match, and McCaw said before suiting up in the red and black uniform he would talk with the former captain and current coach.

"It would be nice to be involved with the Crusaders, but that's a discussion I have to have (with Blackadder)," said McCaw.

"If that turns out to be the case (that they need me), then playing next week...I don't see that being a a problem."
