The Crusaders suffered a blow ahead of Friday's clash with the Chiefs when Owen Franks was ruled out with a hamstring strain.

The Crusaders were dealt a blow ahead of Friday's clash with the Chiefs in Hamilton when All Blacks prop Owen Franks was ruled out with a hamstring strain.

Franks returned to the Christchurch-based franchise with the injury after attending last weekend's All Blacks' training camp in Mt Maunganui.

Rookie Nepo Laulala, who has not played this season, will start at tighthead prop as his replacement.
