Chiefs back Tom Marshall wants the two-time champions to bring the excitement back when they face the Lions on Saturday.

A heavy loss to the Brumbies last weekend came after losing at home to the Crusaders by a single point in a tough run for Dave Rennie's men.

As a result the Chiefs have made a high number of changes to freshen up their side, with Marshall switching from full-back to centre.

"It's been a tough couple of weeks," Marshall told APNZ.

"So this week we've stripped everything bare and cleared out the closet.

"We want to get back to playing good Chiefs footy and try to bring a little bit more excitement and enjoyment. It's been a really good start to the week so far."

A large reason for the Chiefs' recent struggles is undoubtedly the absence of All Black fly-half Aaron Cruden, with Gareth Anscombe filling in at ten.

"Aaron's a huge loss, he was always going to be. He really calls the shots," added Marshall.

"But he's there during trainings and he's always putting in his input, which has been great. And Gareth's really stepping up."
