"The point being made is that SBW is a poser rather than a serious rugby player"

Chicka, that is a personal opinion and not fact.

Facts are the points which tha_mai has listed.

It's obvious from your comments you're a wind-up or an idiot, however the fact remains SBW has been selected to the worlds best rugby team by far more educated rugby minds than you or I indicates he's pretty good at what he does.

Haha, the support of hundreds of my countrymen, compared to a population of what, 4 million.. errr, nice.

Logic suggests you're an idiot.

Apv1

Other then summer sport in the off season yes as long it doesn't interfere with rugby union seasons as you are ware the rugby season N/Z almost 9 months so it leaves little room to play other sport.

ruckingkiwi & tha_mai - hmmmm

Can't win the argument so attack the messenger! What tha_mai said was clearly non-sensical - just look at his/her post in conjunction with what I had written and you will see that his/her argument does not make logical sense. Don't know how you can defend that - but you tried so - hey - you probably both were in the same "logic" class in the philosophy department in a "university" in a country not renowned for its intellectual capacity.

The point being made is that SBW is a poser rather than a serious rugby player (or a boxer for that matter) and that is a valid point - despite the personal attack on me. From the Australian side - Australia has a worse track record than our trans Tasman cousins. We sacked the - at the time - world's greatest winger (Joe Roff) for the atrocious Wendell Sailor - so we appreciate full well what it is like to cling to over self-promoted garbage at the expense of quality.

You should appreciate my input (and re-take that course in logic at the institution that wouldn't pass for a kindergarten in any other country in the world but is satisfactory as a university in New Zealand) and agree that SBW will not make a positive contribution to the All Black's fortunes going forward. In this opinion I am fortified by the support of hundreds of your countrymen (obviously Australian educated - as any Kiwi with an "education" is).

This is not criticism, just my heartfelt desire not to see the ABs drop into rugby irrelevancy. Think about it.

Pity neither Henson or Cipriani would get anywhere near the All Blacks otherwise your comparison may have some merit, but sadly they cannot even make a club 1st team.. therefore your comments are barely laughable, at best.

I'm sure you'd understand the point being made if you attempted to use half of that intelligence your tax paying countryman have obviously wasted on your education. It's not exactly rocket science. That aside, if you cannot see SBW is a class rugby player then you clearly know very little about rugby, or you're just an idiot???

Anyones guess!

tha_mai - you MUST be a Kiwi as your logic is astonishing!

"there is not one player who beats SBW in all of the following categories" ???!!!

Of course there is not one player who beats him in ALL of those categories if he is no. 1 in offloads! You must be a University of Auckland PhD.

Ranking him 9th in the number of runs this season doesn't mark him out as one of the games legends either.

I stand by what I said: "As a rugby player he is a decent amateur boxer. As a professional boxer, he is an average fringe rugby player". Olympic qualifying ego and superb self promotion does NOT make you a world class rugby player. kentaff spot on when you say he is the Gavin Henson of New Zealand! He also does a pretty good Danny Cipriani impersonation too.

tha_mai says...

Chicka - rather a pathetic little rant;

Look at at the Super stats for this season after 12 rounds - there is not one player who beats SBW in all of the following categories: most runs 9th, most run metres 3rd, most linebreaks 5=, most linebreak assists 6=, most offloads 1st.

While I don't like all the publicity he attracts, he's not as bad a rugby player as you maintain; and likely a better boxer than you too.

Apologies APV1, misinterpreted your query.....

Posted 15:12 18th May 2012

APV1 says...

@ kinsman - I thought NZ, like England does now, will only consider players based in NZ. I don't mean that playing a different sport at a different time, I mean a different sport at the same time.

@ tha_mai - could he not be on the books of a club, to allow the NZRU to consider him, but never play, as he's unavailable that weekend playing the other sport?

I'm not explaining this very well, am I?!

The answer APV1 is a definitive no.

Williams is a pathetic joke. As a rugby player he is a decent amateur boxer. As a professional boxer, he is an average fringe rugby player. Not since Oasis has anything so embarrassingly ordinary been accorded any sort of status whatsoever.

tha_mai says...

APV1 - great concept! but no, players must be attached to a rugby club and a province (for ITM Cup) within NZ, even though ABs only rarely get to play for clubs these days.

kinsman says...

@APV1, unless the rules have changed somewhat, playing overseas in another sport does not preclude you from anything. Henry Paul, Lesley Vainikolo and Shontayne Hape being 3 NZ league internationals that spring to mind..... SBW is already a NZ league cap having his debut back in 2004

No I believe he has to be contracted to NZRU.

Thought he was going to Japan ? He cant turn down $2 mill a season !?

jonesy2 says...

he will be playing NRL next year. of that there is little doubt. i for one am just glad that he came across from league and became one of the best players in the world while winning the RWC with the allblacks and hopefully the super rugby title with the chiefs. he has earnt the right to do what the hell he pleases from now on whenever he wants. of course i hope he stays at the chiefs until the next world cup.

Posted 06:53 18th May 2012

APV1 says...

Could he still get capped by the ABs if he plays league in NZ? Interesting concept, but I just wonder what the rules say.

I appreciate that playing overseas in any sport will preclude him, but what about a different sport in NZ..?
