Blues winger George Moala has been cited for a dangerous tackle against the Highlanders on Friday at Eden Park.

Moala is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling when he tackled Highlanders winger Buxton Popoali'i, the incident occurring in the 45th minute of the match.

Popoali'i was eventually stretchered off the field after a lengthy break in play following the incident.

Referee Steve Walsh initially handed Moala a yellow card for the tackle, but on further review the citing commissioner has concluded that the tackle could have warranted a red card offence.

No date for Moala's hearing has been set, but it will be heard by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Nicholas Davidson QC.
