damn..another from the Blues.

so that's Kaino, Wulf, Munro, Mailau and now Toeava. The new Blues coach should really be doing a lot of homework during the iTM comp.

tha_mai the guy is now 26, still not at his physical peak and you cut him down like he's 36 and has a whole rugby career behind him. With his injuries he still has some rugby years in the tank, so dn't be surprised when he comes back 28/29 and does the business with the ABs

tha_mai says...

maybe the 'curse of the utility back'?

He started and ended his AB career as a fullback, but only played there 6 times, rest of the games midfield or on the wing, never 'held' a position was used as Mt Fixit most of the time.

And a correction, it's 36 tests and one AB match (v Munster).

Some pretty good players heading to Japan at the moment!

Desperatedly shy guy who always looked awkward in the limelight, but a hugely talented rugby player who just never made it. Maybe two years in Japan will be the making of him... beacuse it's always a shame when great potential is never fully achieved.

Toeava - never an AB 'great' and not so memorable in the black jersey, injury after injury I'd say he has been available to play only about 50% of his career. The rest in Japan may give him a new lease on playing life, returning at 28 still a chance top level again.

and another Auckland loss - prop Tevita Mailau has signed to play rugby in France.

Most over-rated player to ever wear the Black jersey. Got chance after chance, and only had about 2 decent games in the black jersey overall. He was a guy who was excellent at Super rugby level, but never translated that at test level. Will be a loss to Auckland rugby - but not for the ABs

Disappointing on so many levels . I can see Kahui going the same way , equal talent and just as injury prone.

If he makes it through the 'light' pressures of an easier league such as in japan I can see him moving back to Nz in a couple of years as he's a really good player at 12, 13 or 15

Talented player but sadly I don't think he ever lived up to his potential or hype at international level. A little surprised he played 38 test as he never held down a starting spot and was normally on the bench (the joys of being a utility player). Good luck to him anyway and you never know hes only 26, he could be back for another nz stint.

@qkram79

Your right his hip injuries have been a problem for a few season now. Bit of a risk for any club to take him on. If he gets fit though he'd be hard to stop at that level.

Oh yay.. another loss.

When this guy is on form he is one of the most devastating players in the world... would be a much better known player if he wasnt so unlucky with injuries.

Anyway there'll be another one out The Rugby Factory to replace him soon enough.

I'd worry about this guys future with his injury history.
