Read of two ex-NFL players who have recently committed suicide as a result of what is thought to be mental illness brought on by repeated concussions throughout their careers. Not implying this will happen in this case but I have read a few reports recently into what can potentially happen if guys are exposed to repeated head trauma. Leaving the game with bad knees is one thing, leaving it with permanent memory impairment, slower reaction speeds, increased likelihood of Alzeimers disease and depression is something else entirely. Can't fault a guy putting his body on the line but there's nothing to prove putting your life on the line

another statement from Lam, am unsure how qualified or informed he is to be saying this, but:
"Blues coach Pat Lam today ruled out any chance of Stanley being back before the three-week break in June and said there was a 'good chance' that he won't play again afterwards."
Last week in Oz a doco showed about sports head injuries/repeat concussions, featured ex Blues/AB Steve Devine who has long-term damage from these injuries and coming back to play too soon. Not pleasant viewing -

errr... advice for Pat Lam. The Blues season is pretty much over in terms of your league position etc. Think about Benson's health and his ability to enjoy the rest of his life without on going brain issues. There is truly no need to rush him back into the team. Rest him for at least three weeks. Some things are more important than rugby (even in New Zealand).
