New deal: Nic White

The Brumbies have announced that scrum-half Nic White has penned a one-year extension at the franchise.

After making his debut against the Reds in 2011, White has gone on to become their first choice number nine, claiming nineteen caps to date.

White's speed to the breakdown and ability to clear the ball quickly have both been highly beneficial for the Brumbies forwards over the last two seasons. His good form in 2012 was rewarded with a spot in the Wallabies train-on squad and while he didn't receive a cap, he had three full games on the Australian bench during the successful series against Wales.

A part of the new generation of Brumbies, which includes names like Scott Fardy and Jesse Mogg, White's decision to stay was met with optimism from his head coach Jake White.

"Under the Brumbies program Nic has seen substantial improvements to his game in both attack and defence," coach White told the Brumbies website.

"He spent most of 2012 battling a shoulder problem so with that out of the way we are expecting Nic to have a big season.

"Along with guys like David Pocock, Stephen Moore and Ben Alexander, Nic's contract extension allows us to plan for a strong future at the Brumbies."

Scrum-half White was pleased to have his contract settled so he could now maintain his full focus on steering the Brumbies to the 2013 Super Rugby finals series.

"The Brumbies gave me my first chance as a younger guy, so it was always my intention to continue my rugby here in Canberra," he said.

"The program at the Brumbies has allowed me to make significant improvements to my game but I feel like I still have plenty of room to get better.

"Ben Serpell [Athletic Performance Coach (rehab)] and the rest of the Athletic Performance Department got me through my shoulder rehab over the off season and it showed me that the Brumbies is the best place for me to learn and improve as a player.

"We are a tight knit team and we spend a lot of time together. My partner Melissa and most of my friends are here in Canberra and I'm enjoying life as a Brumby. It's comforting to know that I'm here for another season."
