Pressure on: Sam Warburton

Wales captain Sam Warburton insists no player wearing the international jersey should "feel safe" about keeping their spot in the starting XV.

Openside flanker Warburton stated this following coach Warren Gatland's call to drop 82-cap Mike Phillips from his side that will take on France.

Gatland added that another poor performance such as the one in Ireland could see players "maybe (play in) their last game for Wales".

"I don't think anybody should feel safe in a Welsh jersey," Warburton told BBC Sport ahead of their Six Nations clash with Les Bleus in Cardiff.

"The message from the coaches is play every Welsh game like it could be your last.

"So I don't think anybody should feel safe in a Welsh jersey, which is the best way to be.

"You want to go out playing with a little bit of that nervousness and a bit of fear, really, because that's what brings you out.

"When you get backed into a corner you should come out fighting and I think that's the way all players should respond."
