The Scottish Rugby Union have issued a 'hands-off' warning to the ARU over interim head coach Scott Johnson.

The Scottish Rugby Union have issued a 'hands-off' warning to the ARU over interim head coach Scott Johnson.

Johnson lead Scotland to a third-placed finish in this year's Six Nations, thanks to victories over Italy and Ireland.

The Australian's future remains unclear beyond the Scotland tour of South Africa later this year, with Johnson linked with taking on the role full-time.

Johnson's name however has also been linked with the position of High Performance Unit Manager with the Wallabies.

Queensland Reds coach Ewen McKenzie is another Australian to be linked with a position in the Scotland coaching setup, with the SRU addressing both rumours.

"As far as Scott Johnson is concerned he is contracted to Scottish Rugby," said an SRU spokesman to the Edinburgh Evening News.

"The present situation with his interim head coaching position is that he is coach until the South African tour in June.

"But he has another job with Scottish Rugby which is on the performance side and bringing through the next generation of coaches.

"It has been mentioned that there have been speculative remarks in the Australian press about Ewen McKenzie going to Ireland and the next spot if that fell through seems to be Scotland. But it is just speculation."
