Wyles ready to fill in for Tomkins

Mr Versatile: Chris Wyles

Saracens utility back Chris Wyles is a man for all positions and the USA international admits he is happy to be his club's Mr Versatile.

The 30-year-old missed Sarries' 16-9 Aviva Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs last weekend because he was busy playing for the USA - albeit in the familiar surroundings of Allianz Park.

It was a familiar outcome for the back, though, who continued his fine form at the venue this season with a 28-7 triumph over Russia.

At the same time, his club team-mates were grinding out what could prove to be a vital win down at Sandy Park.

But with centre Joel Tomkins now ruled out for around three months with a knee injury, they may be calling on Wyles to step into the breach once more and he is happy to answer the SOS.

"I've played in a fair few positions and I've said it so many times but I am just happy to be playing, wherever that may be," he said.

"I don't think I have a favourite position, I just like being involved, but I've found playing at 12 very enjoyable.

"It's tough on Joel because he had a great spell and made a great impression this season, but he'll come back stronger and fitter.

"Injuries are part of the game, and especially at Sarries it's about squad rotation, you have seen that in the LV= Cup, we aim to be competitive in every competition."

Saracens have won all nine regular season Aviva Premiership matches they have played since moving to their new stadium.

That includes four this term, but a blistering start isn't always a good thing according to Wyles.

He points to Leicester Tigers and their knack of winning when it matters, and Wyles wants Sarries to take note.

"As a team we really enjoy playing there, we want to make it into a bit of a fortress and it's been a good start this season," he added.

"The season is a long grind, though, Leicester are famous for not starting well and going on and winning the Premiership, it's incredible.

"But first things first, as long as we focus on the task at hand and not look too far ahead we should do ok, because Christmas is a big period for us."
