TMO decisions were vital - Hepher

Denied a try: Tom Johnson

Exeter assistant coach Ali Hepher felt his team deserved more than the losing bonus point they secured in their 16-9 defeat to Saracens and bemoaned the TMOs decisions in the match.

TMO David Sainsbury ruled out scores by Tom Johnson and Ian Whitten.

It was the Johnson attempt in the closing stages of the match that sparked most emotion as the England flanker was deemed to have grounded the ball short of the line.

"We came up a little bit short with the two TMO decisions we had, and if one of those had been given, that might have changed the game," said Hepher.

"We have got to take them on the chin, those decisions probably even themselves out throughout the season, but we are certainly disappointed."

"It was frustrating the referee went to the TMO for Tom's one, because we had possession of the ball, and we only needed one more phase round the corner, and we would have walked the ball in.

"We were robbed of that opportunity when the referee went to the TMO.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall conceded that he was a nervous man as Exeter charged his team's line in the final exchanges.

"Exeter threw everything at us, but we were able to hold on."

"Who is to say Exeter didn't deserve something out of the match? But I am really pleased that we showed a lot of resilience in the game."
