MacLeod: Big points haul

Nineteen points from the boot of fly-half Nick MacLeod was enough to lead Sale to a 29-18 win over London Wasps on Saturday.

Sale took the lead within the first five minutes through a MacLeod penalty but it was Wasps who were the first over the whitewash when Chris Bell added the finishing touch to a flowing passing move.

Ryan Davis' conversion and penalty goal shortly afterwards put the visitors 10-3 up.

But it was Sale who would dominate the remainder of the opening period.

Two MacLeod penalties took the visitors to within a point, and then on 36 minutes Fraser McKenzie barged over after a period of sustained Sharks pressure.

McKenzie's try was converted and another MacLeod penalty made it 10-19 to Sale at half-time.

The Sharks wasted an opportunity to open the scoring during the early stages of the second half when they coughed up possession with the try-line beckoning, although the mistake would not prove to be costly.

The barren third quarter following the restart was eventually interrupted in the 55th minute when David Seymour's try put Sale further ahead, but Wasps hit back quickly with a penalty from Davis.

That made the score 13-26 in the vistors' favour and the Sharks put further daylight between themselves and their hosts with MacLeod's fifth penalty of the match.

Wasps did give themselves hope ten minutes from time when Davis turned try scorer and scrambled over the whitewash, but the Sale held firm in the final ten minutes to ensure there would be no comeback.
