Northampton Saints face growing problems at the number two position after Matt Williams broke his leg against London Irish.

Williams was a second-half replacement for Ross McMillan, with first and second-choice hookers Dylan Hartley and Mike Haywood both sidelined.

Hartley, Northampton's captain, could return in two weeks time for the clash with Bath as the playoffs loom on the horizon, but has been out injured along with Haywood due to shoulder injuries.

Alex Waller, a prop who scored Northampton's fifth try in the 36-21 over London Irish on Easter Sunday, has experience at hooker and might be asked to provide cover for McMillan should Hartley not return in time.

"It does leave us a bit short," director of rugby Jim Mallinder told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

"Hopefully we'll get Dylan back soon, and Mikey Haywood.

"It will be another few weeks fo Dylan. He won't be back this week, but he's making good progress and he might be fit for that (the Bath game on May 2)."
