Northampton Saints fly-half Stephen Myler is adamant there is much room for improvement despite his fine club form this season.

Myler, enjoying an extended run in the Saints number 10 jersey, has missed all but three minutes of his side's Premiership campaign thus far, and sits third on the point-scoring charts with 115 to his name.

Indeed, the 29-year-old pivot nailed a tricky last-minute penalty to hand Jim Mallinder's men victory over London Wasps 17-15 at Adams Park on Saturday.

"I am really enjoying my rugby and I have had a lot of minutes under my belt so far this season, a lot more than I have perhaps in recent seasons," said Myler.

"I am a rugby player and like any rugby player I just want to play games and have as much as a positive effect that I can and I feel like I am doing that.

"Whenever I have had a run of games in the past I have felt like I have been able to contribute and help the team out as you get more confident and things just seem to click a little easier.

"And that is the case so far this season but at the same time I am just focusing on improving and getting better and better.

"I am feeling good about my rugby at the moment and I am playing well which is good to have but you have always got to improve and that is what I am focusing on."

That narrow win over Wasps extended Saints' unbeaten run in the Premiership to seven games - a streak Myler is keen to extend over the festive period with tough home fixtures against Bath and Harlequins fast approaching.

But the pivot maintains that such clashes will bear far more significance come the business end of the season.

Our next two games are big games because they are both fighting for play-off positions like we are," added Myler.

"We are on a good run at the moment and hopefully that can continue over the next couple of games too because wins over your rivals can put you in a good position for later in the season.

"But at the same time we know that you don't win anything in December either and it is about striking while the iron is hot in May for the play-offs so we won't be getting carried away just yet."
