Richards: Falcons will bounce back

Dean Richards has backed his Newcastle Falcons side to learn from their 40-3 Premiership trouncing away to Saracens on Sunday.

The Allianz Park drubbing, Richards believes, was brought on by a Charlie Hodgson try just five minutes before half-time, with the scores level at 3-3.

"We conceded a soft try just before half-time which made it very difficult for us, but we'll learn from the experience, and let's be honest they're not a bad side are they," said Richards.

"The boys came into the changing room afterwards and all agreed that for 40 minutes we were competitive, and if we were more clinical in attack it might have been a different story."

A quartet of second-half tries saw Saracens record a one-sided victory, with a double from David Strettle and scores from hooker Jamie George, and Alex Goode.

"Saracens probably played the referee better than we did, and probably got some decisions that we didn't get," added Richards.

"Also, more than anything I thought Saracens were more clinical than we were in the second half. They don't play in their own half at all, and they only play in the opposition half - you could see that in the first period.

"We were a little disappointed to be 10-3 down at half-time as we had some chances to get points on the board, but at the end of the day you've got to take your chances and we didn't in the first half."
