Aware: Scott Lawson

Newcastle Falcons hooker Scott Lawson says he is ready to return to face his former club London Irish four months after leaving.

Lawson made his Falcons debut in the defeat to Brive last weekend after a broken thumb picked up in pre-season kept him out of action for the opening games of the season.

"The Brive game was great to get ready for the bread and butter of the league and Irish will be difficult," Lawson told the BBC.

"Obviously we didn't get the result we wanted but away games in France always have a fantastic atmosphere so it's good experience for the lads that played."

Newcastle head into this weekend's round of fixtures level on points with Irish, Gloucester and London Wasps, with seven points separating them and bottom side Worcester Warrirors.

Irish, under Director of Rugby Brian Smith, have undergone a personnel overhaul since Lawson left the Madejski, and the Scotland international knows his new side will face a tough test.

"I know how hard a game Irish will be because they're a lot different to the squad I was a part of that really struggled," added Lawson.

"They've evolved the playing squad - not unlike Newcastle have since relegation [in 2012].

"Now they are a solid unit with a very strong backbone, especially in the back row.

"They've realised how important it is to be tough in this league and have gritted points out without playing well."
