Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards has revealed he is happy with the club's start to the new season.
The promoted team have two wins from their opening five matches in the league so far, against Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors.
Richards' team will face pre-season relegation rivals London Irish this weekend, with the Exiles currently in 8th place having also won two of their first five league matches.
Crediting the younger members of the Newcastle squad for their efforts during the last two weeks in the Amlin Challenge Cup, Richards believes the club's squad is growing stronger each week.
"We are doing all right," Richards told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"We have had two wins out of five and, had we retained our composure against Gloucester, that might have been three.
"Had you asked me before the start of the season whether I would have accepted the start we have had then the answer would probably have been yes, but there is a long way to go and plenty more to come from this squad.
"With the quality of the players we have and the youngsters coming through, I am confident we will get there.
"Winning our home games is obviously an area where we can improve, although one of the positives of winning twice on the road is the fact we are not afraid to travel.
"The beauty for me is that the youngsters are coming through in such numbers, and that speaks volumes for the talent in the area and the quality of our academy."
