Young speech inspires Wasps

Dai Young revealed the message behind his half-time team talk as Wasps defeated London Welsh 34-15 in Oxford on Saturday.

Down 12-6 at half-time, Wasps produced a resounding second half performance, scoring four tries to notch up a crucial try bonus point.

"I felt that if we could do that, then we had the X Factor in our team and the added quality that would win us the game," said Young.

"But that quality can only win you the game if you underpin it with accuracy and work ethic.

"It was an honest appraisal of where we were in the first half (at the interval). It was not kicking over of glasses or anything because that doesn't get you anywhere. It was certainly that everyone knew that you cannot come here expecting it to happen - you have to make it happen."

"Welsh were right in that game even at 22-15 and, obviously, a fantastic try for Joe [Simpson] and also for Elliot [Daly]."

"He [Joe Simpson] has certainly not let us down this season, and he has been outstanding. His kicking game is as good as any other scrum-half in the Premiership and if you are looking for someone who is going to create something out of nothing, there is nobody better."

London Welsh director of rugby Lyn Jones cited individual errors as being behind his side's downfall, but was pleased with an impressive 10,045 crowd at the Kassam Stadium, Welsh's biggest crowd so far at their new home.

"We were quite buoyed at half-time and turning around at 12-6 up we knew the first score after that was going to be important. Nicky Robinson put one over (penalty) and then they squirted over for the first try," said Lyn Jones.

"We came back and got within bonus point area but individual errors cost us again as some boys learnt to step up to Premiership level."

"The future has to be in Oxford, 100%. Lock, stock and two smoking barrels. Today was a great occasion, well supported and a testament to the good work that is being done at the club.

"There is a market here in Oxford and people want the quality of rugby and we need to deliver it. The Richmond area is just saturated with rugby clubs."

Some darn good Welsh coaches in the Aviva. Shame there are none in Wales.
