Newcastle Falcons beat London Irish 29 - 21 in a high-paced Anglo-Welsh Cup clash at Kingston Park on Sunday.
Newcastle got their LV= Cup campaign off to a winning start with a second successive defeat of London Irish as they followed up their 13-11 Premiership success with a more comprehensive result.
The second-half sin-binning of prop Jamie Hagan proved crucial as Newcastle scored their second try while he was off to open a decent gap.
Newcastle led 16-11 at the break thanks to a try from Warren Fury with a second try from Richard Mayhew after the break and Rory Clegg's kicking securing the win.
